The Problem with our Young People
This know also that in the last days perilous times shall come,
for men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers,
disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy. 2 Timothy 3:1-2
Let's look at the part that says disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy.
Sometimes I wonder what has happen! Youth of today are straying far from God. They live in the broad way that will lead to destruction. So many have lost their virtue and purity. I have never seen so many programs for addictions. So many youth that wind up in prison. We are told that the prisons are occupied largely by young men. I really think it is worse than that since there are facilities for women only in this day.
In our churches we are losing our youth. What is wrong? I know they make wrong choices and have to suffer for them.
But the main thing is: God has been left out of their lives.
Instead of church, they love the things of the world. They seem to have lost a tender conscience that they once had. The bright lights of the world allure them. Looks like so much fun! So they decide to break Mom and Dad's hearts and leave and go their own way.
I believe the Church and the Home is to blame!
Can your children remember family altar where all gather around and the Bible was read and then prayer? Do they know when the church doors are opened that the whole family will be there? Are they permitted to sass or tell Mom and Dad what to do? Are you in control of your home and the children? I know they might not like what we have to say but as Christian parents it is our duty. Where does correction begin? When they are babes! "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it," says the Bible.
I know you can do your very best and still they may go astray.
But at least you have the consolation that you did your best.
I think maybe the downfall of some of our youth may be within the church. It is our duty to keep them in a spiritual church where they can feel the presence of God.
Is your church dead? If so,find one that has a vision. Find one where you can hear an old fashion sermon that was inspired by God. I hate sermonettes. You can just feel that a few points on a subject was gathered at the last minute~ and the preacher stands and gives the sermonette. I know from experience this happens too often. In a former church the pastor preached(?) and then said he did not know why the Lord lead him to preach that way but he had to mind God. On the way home I looked at my husband and said,"What did he preach?" His answer " I have no idea." Altars are empty! Souls are not being saved.
Then the church turns around and wonders why they are losing their youth? Have they ever heard about the Cross and the Blood of Jesus that can set them free? Does your church have a vision?
Where there is no vision, the people perish. (Proverbs 29:18)
I am so thankful that we have a good church that carries a burden and a pastor that preaches the truth. If our youth go astray it will be over our prayers for them...
I mentioned that in spite of all you may do for your child they may still go astray. But if we set the right example before them I honestly think they will not be able to get away from the prayers that follow them. If you have a child that has gone astray, just keep on praying. We may not be aware they they are looking at our lives. I don't want to get to the judgment and find that I did not do my best for them.
As the old song says,
Just keep on praying 'til light breaks through
The Lord will answer, will answer you.
God keeps His promise, His word is true,
Just keep on praying 'til light breaks through.

Amen! Just keep praying!
ReplyDeleteSo true Aliene. Some people may not like me for saying this, but I strongly believe that part of the problem is that children have been taken out of the church service to have their own service. Children who are kept in the church with their parents do hear the preacher and I believe it is very important. When I grew up we didn't have children's church. I was 9 years old when the Lord knocked on my heart's door during a revival at our church. Though I went astray during young adulthood, I came back to the Lord and stayed.
ReplyDeleteGreat post...I just thought about this today...that really for some youth, Christianity is handed to them on a silver platter.. BORN into good Christian homes..RAISED in good Bible believing churches with standards. What happens to these? CHOICE. My husband just preached on the hope of the Prodigal's Parents..and it begins with Consistency, Commitment,Compassion and of all PRAYER..and patience in letting GOD work in their lives. I have had a Prodigal come home. Praise the LORD. Proverbs is true. Hold it in your heart.
ReplyDeleteThe youth of today..are tempted in so many areas and exposed to so much more than we were. They need good examples and prayer.
Thank you. Praying for our youth!
HOPE
Hope...I've spent alot of time wondering those same things...wondering what we could have done differently or better....I realize there are so many influences in our children's lives, even though they have been raised in the church, (three services a week)...your husband has it right...consistency I think is one of the most important, and perhaps where we failed...commitment, compassion and prayer...all are so needed!
ReplyDeleteWhat it comes down to ultimately is their choice, their free will.
